A career diplomat, scholar, author and former journalist, Venu Rajamony served as Ambassador of India to the Netherlands from 2017-2020, He was responsible for the International Court of Justice and other legal institutions in The Hague and the OPCW. Rajamony was Press Secretary to President of India, Pranab Mukherjee (2012-2017) and Consul General of India in Dubai (2007-2010)

ലോകരക്ഷയ്ക്കായി വിഷം കുടിക്കേയ്ക്കേണ്ടിവന്നുവെന്ന ഉദാത്ത സങ്കല്പമാണ് ശിവരാത്രിയുടെ ആഘോഷത്തെ മഹത്തായി മാറ്റുന്നതെന്നാണ് എനിക്കെപ്പോഴും തോന്നിയിട്ടുള്ളത്.

പാലാഴി മഥനം നടത്തിയപ്പോൾ ‍ഉയർന്നുവന്ന കാളകൂടവിഷം ലോക രക്ഷാർത്ഥം ശ്രീ പരമേശ്വരൻ പാനം ചെയ്തുവെന്നാണല്ലോ ഐതിഹ്യം. ഈ വിഷം ഉളളിൽച്ചെന്ന് ഭഗവാന് ഹാനികരമാവാതിരിക്കാൻ പാർവതീ ദേവി അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്‍റെ കണ്ഠത്തിൽ മുറുക്കിപ്പിടിക്കുകയും, വായിൽ നിന്നു പുറത്തു പോവാതിരിക്കാൻ ഭഗവാൻ വിഷ്ണു വായ പൊത്തിപ്പിടിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. അങ്ങനെ വിഷം കണ്ഠത്തിൽ ഉറയ്ക്കുകയും ഭഗവാന് നീലകണ്ഠൻ എന്ന നാമധേയം ലഭിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു. (എന്‍റെ മുത്തച്ഛന്‍റെ പേര് എസ്.നീലകണ്ഠ അയ്യരെന്നാണെന്ന വിവരവും സാന്ദർഭികമായി പങ്കിടട്ടെ. തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെ പ്രമുഖ അഭിഭാഷകനായിരുന്ന അദ്ദേഹം 1949-52 കലയളവിൽ തിരു-കൊച്ചി നിയമസഭയിൽ അംഗവുമായിരുന്നു). ഭഗവാന് ആപത്തൊന്നും വരാതെ പാർവതീ ദേവിയും മറ്റു ദേവീദേവന്മാരും ഉറക്കമിളച്ചിരുന്നു പ്രാർഥിച്ച ദിവസമാണ് ശിവരാത്രി എന്നാണല്ലോ പൊതുവെയുള്ള വിശ്വാസം.

ഞാൻ അഞ്ചു വർഷം പഠിച്ച മഹാരാജാസ് കോളേജ് എറണാകുളത്തപ്പൻ ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനു തൊട്ടു അടുത്താണ്‌. കോളേജ് വിദ്യാഭ്യാസ കാലയളവിൽ ഈ ശിവക്ഷേത്രത്തിൽ പതിവായി ദർശനം നടത്തിയിരുന്നു. അതുപോലെതന്നെ, വേറിട്ടതാണ് ആലുവ മണപ്പുറത്തെ മഹാശിവരാത്രി ആഘോഷം.

ശ്രീനാരായണ ഗുരുദേവൻ അരുവിപ്പുറത്ത് ഒരു മഹാശിവരാത്രി ദിനം കേരളത്തിന്‍റെ സാമൂഹികനവോത്ഥാനത്തിന് തുടക്കം കുറിച്ച പ്രതിഷ്ഠയുടെവാർഷികാഘോഷച്ചടങ്ങിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കാനായതിന്‍റെ സന്തോഷം ഞാൻ പങ്കുവച്ചിരുന്നതുമാണല്ലോ.

അമൃത് എന്ന പരമോത്കൃഷ്ടതയോടൊപ്പം മഹാകാളകൂടവും പിറവിയെടുക്കുന്നതാണ് പ്രകൃതിനിയമമെന്ന വസ്തുത ലോകത്തിന് വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും ഓർമിക്കാനുള്ള അവസരം കൂടിയാണ് ശിവരാത്രി.

എല്ലാ ഭക്തർക്കും ശിവരാത്രി ആശംസകൾ!
